Rowan Atkinson's McLaren F1

Rowan Atkinson's McLaren F1

Rowan Atkinson is well known actor in roles such as Mr.Bean,Blackadder and other comedies. Little you might know Rowan is a bit of a petrol head, and one of his pride and joy is a rare maroon McLaren F1 which he purchased in 1997 for £640,000, which he liked to use daily. Unfortunately this McLaren suffered 2 accidents, the later crash happen on Thursday, Aug. 4, in Peterborough, England where he hit a slippery patch of road and lost control of the F1, hitting a tree. He had suffered a shoulder injury and the McLaren a £900,000 repair bill, which is the highest  insurance pay out recorded in Britain.

The rare supercar spent more than a year at McLaren's Woking base being repaired by expert technicians. The insurance only paid out because the F1's value has soared beyond its original price tag. In fact in 2012 an immaculate sample sold for £3.5 million.

A very interesting article can be found on the current (March 2013) Classic and Sports Car Magazine. After reading through the article we couldn't agree more with Mr.Atkinson:

'It depresses me when great cars are hidden away. It is a crime not to use it.'
