A complete reworking of the Cobra’s chassis was required for the installation of Ford’s ‘big block’ 7.0-litre V8s, most of which were the 427ci in various states of tune, though some were sold with smaller-bore/longer-stroke 428ci engines. Chassis tubes were larger, with more crossmembers, and suspension was unequal-length wishbones with coil springs. The body changed, with bulging rear wings to cover much larger tyres, plus aggressively flared front wings. The 31 427 S/C (Semi Competition) models are particularly sought after and valuable.
