What was most majestic and major about 1960’s Majestic Major was its engine... Daimler’s new 4561cc V8 with hemispherical combustion heads, designed by Edward Turner. An impressive 220bhp gave a top speed of 120mph, making the Majestic Major a superb luxury express and one that was easy to drive thanks to the automatic transmission and power steering. The bodywork remained largely unchanged from the standard Majestic, save for a longer boot. For 1961 there was a two-ton limousine version, which was dubbed a ‘120mph funeral taxi’.
