The Phantom V was the first Rolls-Royce to use the company’s new V8 engine. And boy, did it need it. This ultra-luxurious leviathan weighed just under three tonnes and the huge rear passenger compartment was made possible by the elongated 12-foot wheelbase. Everything about the Phantom was designed to pamper; aside from the acres of wood and leather, power steering and automatic transmission came as standard. The styling was closely related to the Cloud on which the Phantom was based, with few cars being bodied by outside coachbuilders.
