In 1980, Rolls-Royces pensioned off the 15-year-old Shadow and replaced it with the Silver Spirit. Except the Shadow lived on in spirit for the new car was effectively the old car with a fresh skin. The angular body was completely new, while an update in 1989 resulted in fuel-injection, more power, anti-lock brakes and a revised interior. The Silver Spur was a long wheelbase offshoot and outlasted the short wheelbase cars on which it was based. In 1994, the Flying Spur was added to the range, complete with Bentley-esque turbocharging.
