1974 Maserati Merak

Created to fight the Ferrari 308 and Lamborghini Urraco, the Maserati Merak was a super-stylish parts-bin special that proved rather effective. The body was a lightly revised version of the Bora’s (losing its flush rear window in the process), and the engine was a lightly tuned version of the Maserati-designed Citroën SM 3-litre, now boasting 190bhp. Never a light car, the Merak struggled to keep up with its rivals, but the 220bhp SS version did much to make amends. Like the Bora, its values lag behind those of its Lamborghini and Ferrari rivals, making a Merak a wise investment.
