1962 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Type 34

From 1961, there was another Karmann-Ghia coupé alongside the more familiar type. An offshoot of VW’s Type 3, Ghia styled the vaguely BMW-ish-looking machine while coachbuilder Karmann built it. Although less pretty than its stablemate, it was still very attractive and the wider floorpan and 1493cc engine gave it more practicality and performance too. However, it was never a big seller, even when a 1584cc engine of 54bhp was added, along with front disc brakes, in 1965. A high price, thirst for fuel and not being sold in the USA were the main reasons for this.
