With a thorough makeover that adorns the car with all manner of scoops, ducts, spoilers and bulges, the Esprit takes on an even more stunningly dramatic persona; one that works a lot better than the description might sound. It came with the muscle to back all that up too, with a water-cooled turbocharger boosting power all the way to 264bhp. To cope with this there’s a new high-torque five-speed transmission, plus further major advances in suspension dynamics to keep Lotus ahead in the game it plays best. Power steering is fitted as standard to an Esprit for the first time.
