A technological marvel that not only took Lotus back to its stripped down lightweight roots, but also created the fastest and best-selling Lotus of all time. Nearly 9000 S1s were shifted in five years. It’s built by attaching composite panels to a very light but strong chassis tub made from extruded aluminium and literally glued together. It does without (and doesn’t need) such things as a brake servo and power steering, but combines electrifying performance with the feeling that it sucks the road like a vacuum cleaner. Now at affordable levels, but don’t expect that to last forever.
