Reintroduced for 1991 in a hurry to boost flagging sales. The lack of development time meant reviving the previous Turbo’s 3.3-litre engine, which with a larger intercooler and other tweaks managed to put out 320bhp. This gave Porsche two years of breathing space in which to develop the turbocharged version of the 3.6 that arrived in early 1993 with another 40bhp and a massive boost in torque. This new version rolled on 18in wheels and could hit 100mph in under ten seconds. Turbos are easily distinguished from other 964s by their fixed rear spoiler.
